We’re something of French Toast experts, and this twist on the traditional recipe adds a perfectly sweet flavor. While we used strawberries, feel free to substitute bananas, blueberries, or your favorite fruit. 🍓
Ingredients
- 3 eggs
- 1/2 cup half and half or whole milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 2 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
- 2 Tbsp. brown sugar
- 1 loaf of Fresh Country Sourdough
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 3/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 tsp. fresh lemon zest
- 1 cup fresh strawberries sliced thin
- 2 tbsp. granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp. fresh lemon juice – about half a lemon
- Butter or bacon fat
Directions
- Gently combine strawberries, sugar, and lemon juice
- Beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and lemon zest together until smooth
- Slice Sourdough, leaving two slices slightly joined at the bottom for easy stuffing
- Spread cream cheese mixture on each inside piece of bread
- Put one layer of strawberries inside bread slices
- In a separate shallow bowl, mix eggs, half & half, cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar
- Melt 2 Tbsp. of butter in a large skillet over medium heat
- Dip each Sourdough “sandwich” in egg mixture and place on the hot skillet
- Cook each side for 2-3 min or until golden brown
